Critical Role Campaign 4: Brennan Lee Mulligan Takes Over as GM, Matt Mercer Joins the Players!

Critical Role, the blockbuster web series for tabletop role-playing, is kicking off Campaign 4 on October 2, with a massive twist: Brennan Lee Mulligan will be the Game Master (GM) for the whole series! Matt Mercer, the usual mastermind, is stepping into a player's role, handing the reins to Mulligan. It's still unclear if it'll use Dungeons & Dragons or the new Daggerheart system.

Critical Role is that live show where voice actors like Mercer bring characters to life in epic campaigns. Starting in 2015, it's blown up with books, animations, and a huge community. Mulligan, famous for Dimension 20 and his intense storytelling, brings fresh energy – expect unpredictable twists and sharp humor. It starts live on Twitch and YouTube, with the core cast (Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, etc.) joining Mercer as players. This switch is shocking since Mercer is the heart of Critical Role, but it's thrilling: imagine a guest master shaking things up! Daggerheart, a homebrew system in beta, could add novelty with its narrative mechanics.
