Cyberpunk 2077 Director Says a Longer Act 1 Wouldn’t Have Improved the Game

Cyberpunk 2077 Creative Director Igor Sarzyński has pushed back on a common critique: that the game’s first act should have been longer. According to Sarzyński, extending Act 1 wouldn’t have made Cyberpunk 2077 better, because its opening was always intended to be as brief as it is in the final release.

The comments arrive years after Cyberpunk 2077’s infamous launch, which was defined by performance issues and widespread backlash. Since then, CD Projekt Red’s sci-fi RPG has staged one of gaming’s most notable comebacks, rebuilding its reputation through updates and major improvements. Still, pockets of criticism remain, including feedback about pacing and narrative structure.

Sarzyński’s stance highlights a familiar tension: players often want “more time” with key story beats, while writers may prioritize momentum and thematic intent.
